The Artist M. Scott Miller
M. Scott Miller

M. Scott Miller was raised in Missoula Montana beginning at age two and gravitated toward the arts early on in life. Painting, drawing and playing the piano were just some of the ways that he enjoyed expressing himself. His senior year at Sentinel High School was spent preparing an artists portfolio for applications to various Art Schools around the country. Through hard work, determination, and help from his art teachers, Scott was awarded a National Talent Search Scholarship from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
Majoring in Illustration, M. Scott found freelance work from the beginning of his school days. He started off as a pre-print mock up artist in a graphic design company, eventually working his way up to illustrating cover art for some of the most prestigious magazines including the New Yorker, Money, and Metropolitan. His client list includes the Village Voice and the New York Observer newspapers and Random House Publishing as a children's book illustrator. M. Scott lived and worked his way through Manhattan doing freelance Illustration for almost two decades.
In 2005, M. Scott Miller made the move back to his home town of Missoula to pursue the development of a Fine Arts career. Most recently, M. Scott was commissioned to create artwork for the 25th Anniversary of the Clark Fork Coalition and received a five year contract to illustrate posters and commemorative clothing for Bannack Days. The wild, colorful, expressive life in Montana inspires him in many ways, and involvement in the Missoula Arts community provides a driving motivation. M. Scott works with many projects, ranging from Illustration for local and statewide newspapers and publications, to charity events with the Missoula Art Museum and The Cowboy Ball annual auction, to showing his own work in the downtown gallery scene. In June of 2009, Miller opened up STUDIO D Gallery. Miller is determined to show high quality art in his new gallery which is located in the heart of downtown Missoula.
